I Met My Husband On Match.com

In the spirit of Valentine's Day, I figured I would share my sappy love story with my readers.  I've already shared this little story on my blog but in case you missed it, you can read on....

It all started when I joined Match.com in July of 2008.  I had talked to a few guys that I'd met on Match, but nothing ever came of it and I started to have my doubts about the whole online dating thing and if it was actually going to work for me.

In August of 2008 a guy messaged me and we messaged back and forth a few times.  Then I got busy and I didn't check my Match account for several weeks.  When I did check it, I found a message from him asking me out.  I responded with a nice message giving him details about how busy I was.  I had decided that online dating was not for me, so I was (in a way) politely turning him down.  THEN, the next day he sent me another message. I wish I had saved that message so that I could share it with you guys, but it went something like this:

"I would like to take you out for dinner,  just one time and I think you'll like me and I could probably make you laugh.  If you decline then I won't bother you again, but I would like for you to at least go out to dinner with me this one time."

Soooooo, I said YES.  What did I have to lose?

Our first date was a week before my 29th birthday and it was great!  We had lots of fun and I couldn't wait to go out with him again.

Then on our second date, he lost his car.  It was not what I would call a good date.   You can read more about that  here.  After that horrible date, I decided that things probably wouldn't work out between us.

But, just to be nice I went out with him one more time.

Then another time.

Then we went on this date:
He won my heart on this date with his blonde mullet wig.  We dressed as redneck skanks.  This was Halloween 2008.

After Christmas, we started getting more and more serious.  I would drive to KY some weekends and he would come to Nashville on the other weekends.

Then in January 2009 he mentioned something about getting married one night on the phone.  OMG.  I couldn't believe it.  So we began to talk about marriage and how things might work if we were married.  He had been looking at houses to buy since he had just moved back to his hometown to practice law.

One night towards the end of January I drove to Kentucky late on Friday night after I had finished a long day of work to visit him for the weekend.  By the time I got there it was around 11pm.  He wanted to take me to show me the house that he was buying.  I had already seen pictures of it and loved it.  So when I got to his Dad's house, I was starving and they'd eaten chili for dinner earlier in the night, so I warmed up a bowl of chili to eat before we went to look at the house.  He kept rushing me as I was eating my chili, so I was wondering what was up.

We finally made it over to the house that he was buying and when we went inside and I noticed all kinds of little gifts in different rooms.  The gifts were for me.  They were housewarming gifts from him!   There was a banner hanging in the living room that said Welcome Home Honey.  I was like, "what's going on here?"  Even after the gifts and everything, I still had no clue as to what was about to happen.  I knew that I wanted to marry him, BUT I would've never suggested it myself  since we had only been dating for about 4 months.  So,  I thought the gifts were just gestures suggesting that he might want me to move in with him at some point.  That's how clueless I am.

He showed me the entire house and then we went back upstairs one more time to take one last look.  I turned to walk into the room that is now our walk in closet and when I did he said:

"are you sure you want to marry me?"

When I turned around he was on one knee with a diamond ring!

Of course I said:
" yes!"

We wanted to get married fairly soon, so I could move to Kentucky and we could get started remodeling the house.  So we planned to elope on April Fool's Day.

We ended up planning a tiny ceremony on April 1, 2009 just for the two of us in Los Cabos, Mexico.  We got married on the beach at the Los Cabos Dreams Resort at sunset and spent our honeymoon in Mexico.

After the honeymoon, I packed up my apartment and moved on up to his hometown!

We now have an adorable 2 year old and are happily married living in Kentucky :)
